Trail description
The route starts at the terminal bus stop “Zašová, konečná”, where you can also park. Follow the green hiking trail to the house number 253, from there you can continue along the streambed to the spring.
Almost the whole gorge is in a protected area, so please behave accordingly, thank you! The whole way through the gorge is beautiful, the mixed woodland provides pleasant shade, and you may notice many protected plants such as different kinds of wild orchids or hart’s-tongue fern. Around the gorge you can see many hunting high-seats and game tracks. If you are observant, you might find wild boar tracks or even spot a Sika deer that roams the area. It’s a solitary animal, but at mating time it seeks out a herd of females. He always drops his antlers in the same place in the autumn. Maybe you will find some…
Just below the source of the Zašovský Stream there is a partisan bunker on the left. To get to it you need to get out of the gorge and walk about 150 m into a game preserve. The bunker was built around 1943 by Czech partisans.
From the source of the stream, head up to Trojačka hill where you can refresh yourself from the many natural wells. From the top, head back along the green hiking trail.
Recommendation
If you have more time, Huštýn peak is also very interesting. It has been recognized as a nature reserve to protect a valuable geomorphological formation – the so-called “frost log cabin”.
