Trail description

From the terminal bus stop “Valašská Senice, konečná” follow the asphalt road for about 1km. At a wooden footbridge, enter the stream bed and continue along the gorge. At the beginning of the gorge, you can see very rare orchid species in the beginning of the summer – the broad-leaved marsh orchid and early-purple orchid. Both species are protected, so please keep this in mind and do damage the plants.

The gorge is very gentle at first, forming meanders and small pools. On hot summer days the forest provides pleasant shade and coolness. The careful explorer will notice the much-washed stream banks where, with careful observation, the sedimented rock structures can be seen. The banks of the creek are covered with another interesting plant: it is the eagle fern, the tallest fern in the country, which can grow up to 2.5m high. And if you look around really well, you might find signs of wild boars, which inhabit the surrounding vegetation.

The higher the gorge winds, the more it burrows into the landscape and undermines the banks of the stream. With the increasing height comes a number of more difficult obstacles, most often fallen trees and branches. The very end of the gorge – the source of the Maslejů stream – is a swamp in a beech forest surrounded by many horsetail plants, which are commonly called Ezechýl. That’s where the name of the hill comes from. From the source of the stream, head to the top of Šerklava hill, one of the highest peaks in the western Javorníky Mountains.

From there, follow the red hiking trail, which is a descending trail, to the Skaličí crossroads, and from there follow the yellow hiking trail back to the bus stop. On the way back you will see numerous rock formations.

Recommendation

On the way you will come across many natural wells, such as the one on Ezechýl hill, offering refreshing water. You will also see numerous rock formations and if that is not enough for you, you can also visit the Pulčín rocks, enjoy some climbing and refresh yourself in a local restaurant.
